Psalm 3 says that the Lord is a shield about me, my glory and the lifter of my head. This promise is the basis for this song. God is the one who sustains us, protects us, and who will ultimately usher us into his glory. The word glory carries the idea of weight, importance, or significance. When we say god is glorious we are saying he is all of these things and when we say that he is our glory we are saying that we have nothing that is those things apart from him. He truly is our glory and will be with us forever.
